Karnataka Administrative Service Examination and Their Syllabi

CLASSIFICATION OF POSTS AND MODE OF RECRUITMENT:


Depending upon the nature of duties and responsibilities, the posts in the State Government Service are classified into groups A, B, C and D. For technical posts falling in groups A, B and C like Doctors, Scientists, and Engineers, the KPSC normally issues advertisements inviting applications from eligible candidates. A Combined Competitive examination to one or more of the services of groups of posts mentioned in schedule I shall be held subject to availability of vacancies, in the manner set out in Schedule II.

There shall be reservation of vacancies for candidates belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes to the extent provided for by the Government.

The KPSC shall prepare separate lists of names of the candidates, equal to have a number of vacancies, considered suitable for an appointment for each of the said services in Group- A and Group-B arranged in the order of merit determined on the basis of total marks secured in the main examination comprising written examination and personality test.

COMBINED COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION:

The KPSC conducts a combined competitive examination to fill the posts in Groups-A and B of various services listed below:

SCHEME OF EXAMINATION

 
SECTION –I PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION

The competitive examination shall comprise two stages:-

  • Preliminary Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the main examination.
  • Main Examination (written examination and Personality Test) for selection for candidates for various services and posts.

Under Section I, for the sub-heading “A Preliminary Examination” and the entries relating thereto, the following shall be substituted, namely,

Preliminary Examination: The Preliminary Examination shall consist of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice)

  • Each paper carrying 100 questions with each question carrying two marks.
  • Each paper shall be of a maximum of 200 marks and a duration of two hours

(Total for two papers 400 Marks) in the following description, namely:-

Note: –

  • The question paper shall be both in Kannada and English.
  • The standard of General Mental Ability questions of preliminary examination (aptitude Test) shall be that of X / SSLC level and the remaining papers are that of Degree Level.
  • The number of candidates to be admitted to the main examination shall be 20 times the vacancies notified for recruitment in the order of merit on the basis of the performance in the preliminary examination, subject to accommodating the same ratio in adequate number of candidates belonging to the categories of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, each of the Backward Classes and others.
  • There shall be negative marking for incorrect answers (as detailed below) for all questions except some of the questions where the negative marking shall be inbuilt in the form of different marks being awarded to the most appropriate and not so appropriate answer for such questions, namely:-
  • There are four alternative answers to every question. For each question, of which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question shall be deducted as penalty;
  • If a candidate gives more than one answer to a question, it shall be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happen to be correct and there shall be same penalty in accordance with clause(I);
  • If a question is left blank i.e. no answers is given by the candidate, there shall be no penalty for that question.
