Yes it is true that there are exam fees; the prelims exam costs $100, and the main exam costs $200. Candidates who are female, SC, ST, or physically impaired are not need to pay the exam fee.

The results of the preliminary exam will be made public roughly a month after the exam is taken. You can take the main exam if you pass the preliminary exam and must submit a separate online application for this on the UPSC website.
